Deactivation
If a customer requests deactivation of the rear side Airbags, two steps must be performed.
Step 1. - Recode control module to switch rear side airbags OFF.
- Code control module to deactivate rear side airbags (see coding combinations page 2).

Coding the control module to activate or deactivate the rear side airbags changes depending on the type of airbag system (airbag 7 or airbag 8) and production date of vehicle. Always identify which airbag system is in the vehicle and code accordingly. To identify and code airbag system, see Repair Manual, Body–On Board Diagnostic (OBD), Repair Group 01, Airbag control module, Coding for rear side airbags.

Activation
If a customer requests activation of the rear side Airbags, both of the following steps must be performed.
Step 1. - Electrically connect rear side Airbag units.
See Repair Manual, Body–On Board Diagnostic (OBD), Repair Group 01, Rear Side airbag electrical connectors, disconnecting and connecting, (rear seat bench).
Step 2. - Recode control module to switch rear side airbags ON.
- Code control module to activate rear side airbags (see coding combinations page 2).

ROAD TESTS Always conduct road tests in accordance with traffic rules and regulations to avoid bodily injury and interrupting traffic. 5. AIRBAG To prevent bodily injury from unexpected deployment of airbags and unnecessary maintenance, follow the instructions in this manual when performing maintenance on airbag components or nearby, and airbag wiring harnesses or nearby. To prevent unexpected deployment, perform the steps below and then wait at least 20 seconds to discharge electricity before beginning work.
